Metal impregnation on steel converter slag as an oxygen carrier

Oxygen carriers used in chemical looping processes operated with biofuel are affected by the inorganic matter of fuel. It is therefore expected that lifetime oxygen carrier limited, and preferably low-cost should be used. based on iron ore or steel manufacturing waste products available significant quantities at low cost. However, it common for these types materials their reactivity low. This study investigates effect adding small amounts more reactive elements into converter slag, also called LD slag. Slag particles were wet impregnated 2 5 wt.% Ni, Cu, Mn, Ce. The new material's morphology was evaluated using X-Ray Diffraction SEM-EDS. Changes towards CO, CH4 model tar molecule benzene a bench-scale laboratory fluidized bed reactor. observed even either Mn could increase toward CO. Both Cu formed phases slag released via CLOU (chemical uncoupling) increased conversion methane benzene. Ni Ce doping but had only minor conversion. © 2023 Authors.
